You can buy Kindle or B&N ebooks for Kindle for PC (or Mac) and Nook for PC (or Mac). However, in order to use these Kindle or B&N ebooks on your Kobo, you will first have to strip the DRM (encryption). In the case of Kindle ebooks you will also have to convert from MOBI to ePub using Calibre. For this reason, the 3rd party DRM stripping plugins to Calibre are often the best approach.
