I think the US also has much tougher parole laws than some countries. Here in Asia, I would say that the drug laws are some of the most extreme, the gun laws here are unbelievable, death for having a bullet, not the gun to fire them, but a cartridge. Yet with these laws, the amount of people awaiting hanging is very high, drugs are very common, pot, hash, meth, ecstasy and of course heroin are all very easy to find and from what I understand very cheap. Yet these same people being caught with as little as 10 grams can be charged and the penalty could very well be hanging.
