I've had excellent results with multiple instances of calibre-server.exe running, even though I'm running Windows7 with the program and libraries scattered across a network.

I use a batch file that explicitly changes to the calibre binaries folder, with command lines that explicitly specify the port, library, and saved search (restriction).

I try not to indulge in library management using the main calibre gui while the server(s) are running, but when I have, it's worked better than I expected, generally recognizing newly added books and minor retagging.

Practicing tag management, column management and/or saved search management can cause glitches, but so far shutting down the servers and main gui, then restarting the servers has always recovered nicely.

I had some issues with custom columns, but as of 7.48 all is well again.
