I've ridden in each of those countries, and these days you can do it all on super highways if you want, (though I don't know why one would want to ride superhighways,) even through Cambodia and Laos! Back country China gets difficult for clean gas as does rural Vietnam and Cambodia, so you really need to have a large gas filter that is field-maintainable, like the ones on the Paris/Dakar BMW. Besides insane drivers, clean gas is the problem more than road condition. Actually, wyndslash is correct in saying her roads are about the worst. Only country I've seen with worse roads in Asia is Bali!
When I lived in Thailand, we used to give a prize to the first person who spotted a motorscooter with 5 or more passengers... Seen daily with kids coming home from school or families going shopping on Sundays. Mom, Dad, two pre-teens and one toddler... all on a 10 year old 50cc Honda Wave.
