Is it 1.1.... based or 1.4... based?

One of the possible explanations is, that cached assets with the same path clash on newer versions. If that's the case, simply renaming files should resolve the issue.

Yes. Switching to 1.4 would mean having to redo translations and lose features like resizing buttons.
