Well, I've never heard of someone buying a tablet,
just to use it as a second monitor.
However, once you have your tablet to play with, why not enhance it with the monitor option.
Just an example:
My phone was roughly $ 400. I also have an app for it's camera flash to turn into a flashlight. I definitely didn't buy a $ 400 flashlight, but I still enjoy the function very much and find it greatly useful.
