Yes I have made sure the time is correct and have also rebooted. The system time stays the same regardless of what the clock is set to.

I must have done something wrong trying to bring up the date, the main menu is where it lists

I tried typing date from there and pressing the 5 way controller and all that would happen is it opened whatever link I was on. I must of misunderstood your instructions.
EDIT: I was able to get the system date to display and as expected it is set to GMT is there a way to change it, syncing has not changed it. here is what it displayed

so no matter what the files on the kindle will be created/updated with GMT, if so the time must not have anything to do with my syncing not working
