Still at the cost of RAM no reason to put too much of a limit, however for a phone really, even just 512MB should be plenty even with the way iOS manages memory.
I would rather see companies stick with less RAM for a few years to get developers to be as frugal as possible and optimize their code until it starts bleeding from it's eyes and ears before letting them loose with more space.

Less of an issue for tablets, but in phones increasing ram beyond what the os needs is actually a really bad idea since it decreases battery life.
