The nook is using a custom (for B&N) css settings. I don't remember for the kobo, if you can add a userstylesheet.css and have the device honor it (and where to place it on the device to get it to honor it). If so, you can do interesting things (such as changing the margins, and turning of the "page" numbers). For RMSDK based devices/applications the settings in userstylesheet.css will override the book settings, so there is no need to break DRM to get the settings to apply.

IIRC, there were a few forum threads describing the settings for the userstylesheet.css (look for posts by Peter Sorotokin).

Edit: This applies only to ePubs, and not to PDFs, btw.
