Regarding the OP, my e-book buying is very price sensitive. I am not wild about paying 9.99 for an e-book of a hardback, but I will do it sometimes. Higher than that, and it's an agency book and I become very reluctant to buy at all. Sometimes, if it's something I really, really want.

And if the paperback is out I won't buy unless the e-book is at least 1$ cheaper than the paperback. I didn't pay for my expensive electronics to increase the PUBLISHER's profits, and being taken for a dupe annoys me. And then, being annoyed at having been taken for a dupe, I lose enthusiasm for buying the book in any form at all.

Fortunately there are plenty of good options. When I get bored with my current selection I go over to Baen (wish they had a bit more mainstream SF and F, but they've got some good stuff, their prices are reasonable, and they're DRM free) or manybooks.net, or check out the Mobileread library.
