I don't really have a favorite author. I re-read books many times, and don't want to spend money on something I won't reread, so I always read the book before buying it. The only exception to that is authors whose work I know that I'm guaranteed to like - my 'favorite' authors, I suppose - and I first discovered all of them by borrowing a library book.
(One of the reasons why library lending is so important!!!!!!)
