Don't loose heart, you have a recent version of the Sony Reader Library Software, so maybe it's ALREADY AUTHORIZED.
If you installed ADE then the Sony Software, it probably just used your existing Adobe Authorization.
Did you even try to import the book that you purchased into your Sony Reader Library to see if you can read it there?
Just because they are using the same DRM authorization doesn't mean they use the same library folder though, SO if you downloaded the book with Adobe, it's in your "My Digital Editions" folder, and you will have to FIND the book in that folder and import it into your Sony Reader Library.
Then, if you can read the book at all in the Reader Library, FINE, that means all the DRM authorization stuff is ALREADY OK, so then just close the book and go back to the main Reader Library screen and drag the book over and drop it on your 505 reader in the left panel of the Sony Reader Library. (look up authorizing your reader, and transferring books to your reader in the Reader Library Manual)
If you DO get a DRM error when trying to import your book into the Reader Library, then it will need to be re-authorized, but from what you are describing this doesn't sound likely.
If you get a DRM error trying to move the book onto your 505, then it needs to be reauthorized by the Reader Library software. If your 505 reader is used and there is already another authorization on the device, you may need to do a 'hard reset' first (see the Sticky at the top of the Sony Forum for very detailed instructions on how to do this).
