Good question.

NC case itself is heavier and the battery is bigger as well, even though they both provide basically same battery life.

Try a Galaxy Tab in Tmobile if you can. It's weight is one of the things why I bought one. Kindle 3 feels slightly better and is much more lighter.

Another reason is weight distribution or center of mass. NC is kind of rectangular which pushes your wrist down while reading. This is something you can also check between iPad and Kindle DXG; they weight almost the same but KIndle DXG feels much more lighter, again same reason: weight distribution and ergonomics.
