My iPad is about six months old now and I love it as much as I did when I first got it. It's pretty amazing. I read about 4-5 hours a day on it-- blogs, magazines, comics, but mostly books. I don't find it too heavy. I usually read with it in my lap. There are some good reasons not to buy an iPad, but most of the reasons I've heard are just plain silly. It does too much?
It's for media consumption and not production? Well, duh.
