I can't believe we have to go through all this just because the a**h**** at Amazon won't allow our own photos on the screen saver - considering the number of complaints I've seen about it.. It's very bizarre that they haven't gotten on to this.. (Yes, I know many are running fonts and other apps, but it seems to me that the Screen Saver is the most common reason to JB!)
+1 worked perfectly here.
Confirmed Working as Follows:
Kindle 3 WiFi (Serial B008...) running Version 3.0.2 +kindle-jailbreak-0.4.N +kindle-ss-0.18.N
* Charged kindle fully (paranoid bout losing power during updates)
* Uninstalled SS-Hack, then uninstalled original Jailbreak. (I didn't bother removing linkss or any other folders)
* Update to Kindle 3.1 - NOT over the air (OTA), I downloaded it from the amazon site (googled: Kindle 3.1 and it was the first link).
* Ran the Official 3.1 update (took ages, did 2 restarts and several passes (JUST WAIT))
* Confirmed that the device was updated to 3.1.
* Installed the new Jail Break (Version 0.3 from Yifan Lu) - As per the accompanying README.txt in the JB download.
* Confirmed that on restart there was a "ENABLE_HACK_UPDATES" file on the Kindle when I plugged in the USB..
* Installed the original kindle-ss-0.18.N hack I had on my kindle.
Everything running great.. With the same photos I had before (didn't delete the linkss directory)..
