I felt like shaking her as well, sometimes
. However, I am not sure if women at that time were allowed to listen to their instincts, let alone live according to them. I was very surprised in the end that her mother just accepted her not wanting to marry Cecil anymore, without being overly concerned what other people might think about it.
And yes, if I had to spend time with Charlotte, I would be arguing with her from morning till night.
