If a person has only one device/app owned I can't remember if a brand new device with no books downloaded yet would show the "Archive" or not, or if one would have to "remove" a book from the device before an archive is created. On the otehr hand, tes, downloading the iPhone app would create an archive on all other devices/apps because anything downloaded to one device or app becomes "available" to other registered devices/apps through the archive.

As others have stated, to remove books from the archive you have to log into you Amazon account, got to the Manage Your Kindle page and delete from there. However, again as others have warned, the book is then gone for good and you would have to repurchase the book to read it or refer to it again. Since I have never done it I assume it then removes it from all devices/apps? Also, I don;t think there is any way to get the "Archive" itself, empty or not, off of a device/app.
