My guess the answer to the international question is "The Nook is not sold outside the US." Phone calls for support will be expensive and the turn around time for sending a Nook back from Sweden is likely to be long. Making servicing any problem with the Nook complicated and annoying.

I know the 350 and 650 are supported in Europe. I am not as sure about the 950. It is also more likely that there are people where she live who have a Sony then a Nook because Nooks are not sold in Sweden.

If I go to NY, I will make my way to the Tea Gschwendner store and not the BN store. I grew up going to the BN store in Boston and loved it. Then I went to grad school and shopped at the original Borders. I would have to say that a bookstore is a bookstore unless it is a specialized indie store, those can be pretty special.

I would take her to a Best Buy and check out the Sony's there or a Sony store.
