Books are printed at 300 dpi (I think). Anything more is considered wasted bandwidth; anything less may cause resolution problems for the reader. Apple's "Retina" screen resolution is more than 300 dpi -- it wins.

100% agreed. Mine doesn't go as high, but resolution is what indeed allows for crisp reading.
