Our hands free toilets usually work ok, but the hands free basins are both unreliable and unnecessary, after all you need to use your hands anyway in order to wash them, and not having to touch the tap to turn it off is more easily accomplished by having a timed off feature. Turn it on by hand, and it goes off after a few (adjustable) seconds.
