I imagine the "panel" is the one that perhaps sits in review of your "short presentation", and by "antagonize" he means maybe don't potentially aggravate strong disagreement in said reviewers by presenting possibly controversial materials.

I'm sure there's probably a phrase for it (like the Testee's Paradox), but it sounded to me similar to the common caution about presenting, in an exam situation, an argument which the examiners are likely to disagree with. They want you to think, but sometimes they want you to think just like them.
