Regarding content it's also like maffia demanding protection money: they approach a thriving business "offering" a "service" the business does not need at all and on an incredible price on top of that. The same is happening here: Apple demands money for a service Amazon, B&N and other players do not need which is emphasized by the fact that content publishing and retail works very well now without any "help" from Apple.
