I think the problem arises with the fact that every local call I made, and every time I accessed my e-mail, it turned into a long distance call. I don't know enough about how these things work, but I was so pleased that my phone worked in the US that I didn't question it. All I saw was that it was connected to the AT&T network, so I figured everything would be local. My fault for not checking before we arrived.

I did look into pre-paid phones once we arrived, but the only ones that seemed to be available were just 'phone only.' I needed something with Internet capabilities as well as GPS function. My iPhone did everything and more, but I guess I paid long distance charges for it all. Oh well... it's only money. Nobody's shooting bullets at me so I'm sure I can survive.
