Snarf if you havn't tried it yet, put the JBL into landscape mode (there is a button for that below the menu button)
This orrients the words the long way (with the screen) and to me makes reading even faster and easier than the other way.
In this mode the left thumb naturally sits on the page turn button.
Give it a try, I suspect you might like it.
