I have a friend that works at Harper so I sent her an e-mail about this. Who knows if it'll even matter if this people have found a way to circumvent the systems. I know that many publishers have only recently begun establishing "departments" (often only 1 person) who is responsible for digital rights. I can only imagine that with the many tens of hundreds of thousands of books in print it will take a while for each and every book to be made available through official channels. Sad for me since I like some pretty obscure authors! So it's up to book nerds like us to see what's out there and discuss at GREAT length. : )
I did buy this version to find out more about it. It was really hard to contact Amazon to let them know that this was a potentially illegal copy and return it. I love(d) these books so much! But having worked in publishing I know how important it is to give my money to official channels to keep at least some money going to the artist. How I feel about how the money gets filtered out is a different subject entirely! Fingers crossed that this series gets the official digital treatment soon- I saw that some of her other books were being reissued in the coming months so there is hope...
