All good guesses, but none of them correct for the location of the filming of Bali Hai. Try again.
The hint about there being a LOT of water between the states is important. Much more than between island of Micronesia (which really does have some fantastic diving) or the Philippines (which has some great wreck diving in Coron Bay in Palawan.) But like the musical says... there is nothing like Bali Hai. The diving is great, the beaches spectacular white sand with few people, all surrounded by jungle covered mountains complete with water falls...
Sneaky... I'm really not sure about the terminology for the Solomons. If they constitute a 'country' or not. I'm just not sure.
