Trying to read a library pdfs on the Kobo was just too painful for me, so I used other alternatives: check out the actual book, read it on my laptop using the Adobe software, or strip the DRM and convert them through Calibre to read on a Kindle, which shows nicely, although it leaves page headings and numbers imbedded in the text, which is slightly distracting. Some pdfs also work on my ipod touch decently, with the ability to tap to fill the screen, and with the Overdrive app, it's easy to get library books on the Apple devices.
