The Kindle 3 meets all your requirements, has the best price, and a huge selection of 3rd party covers to choose from. It's also very user friendly.
I really like the feel of the Kindle, and the TTS is really important to me, BUT I'm very intent on teaching the students to download books for free from the library -- alas, this leaves Kindle out of the question.

Wish it didn't. I like the Kindle.
