So, Ryanjone, as you can see it's a hot topic, and highly emotive. Lots of opinion on here presented as fact.
To help you decide, here are a few questions you might like to address:-
Where in the world are you? Different price plans, services and facilities are available in different countries, and not necessarily for both phones - does this matter to you?
Do you have a particular leaning/loathing of either company (Nokia or Apple) as this will inevitably sway your opinion one way or the other.
Are there particular features that you need now, or may need in future - GPS connection, for example, or a tolerable camera.
How 'smart' do you want the phone to be? Is access to emails and internet enough, or is there something more - an eBook reader, perhaps?
Do you need a phone right now, or is this a purchase to be made in the next 3/6 weeks/months/whatever.
All of the above (and probably a few more I haven't included) will affect your buying decision - your buying decision remember; all we can hope to do is guide you by giving our opinions and experiences.
For the record, I have an iPhone. I find it very good - it does exactly what it's meant to do, simply, easily and elegantly. I'm a 47-year old carpenter/handyman in west London, so as you may imagine my days of 'fashion accessories' are long gone. But yes, I like good quality tools that work as advertised and save me time, and I'm not totally opposed to a bit of 'bling' - my customers (shallow, callow media and publishing folk, mostly) seem to like it...
I haven't used (really used, rather than 'played with' for a week) a Nokia phone for many years as I felt the interface was poor; as phones became more complex, this interface in my opinion, hasn't improved. FWIW, my wife has an N95 (through work) and seems happy enough with it, though her needs for 'smartness' in a phone are modest, as are mine. She still hasn't managed to get the Nokia software to work on her PC yet, though.
Post-Nokia I've used mostly Sony-Ericsson phones and briefly, a Blackberry. The Sony-Ericsson's were good, the Blackberry a dog; iPhone is far, far better than either, in my opinion.
But, you pays your money, makes your choice. Do some research. Try each phone out, see which suits you. Work out the overall costs. And let us know what you choose; I'd be interested in hearing your reasoning.
Cheers, Pete.
