does something does not prove it's profitable. It may indeed have "some kind of payoff" (logically, this would have to be true, or Amazon should not be doing it), but that does not prove profitability. Amazon was renowned for having (pre-Agency pricing) $9.99 best seller ebooks as loss leaders.
