There's all sorts of emotions running through their head, and to have somebody respond and be "meh" sucks. As for not dusting for prints and all that, I wasn't there and don't know the first thing about your town.

I don't immediately hate all police officers. when growing up the Chief of Police was always a guest at our New Years parties, attended our church, etc. through my Dad I had a great deal of contact with the police department. I was accultured to respect and believe in law enforcement. I have never had "criminal behaviour", but my experience here over the last 12 or so years has been horrid; we went on an extended vacation and had a house sitter stay here. he in turn invited some buddies in that started running a meth lab. when we got back, the house was a wreck, clothes, jewelry, am inherited pistol, checks, my HAIR (that had been cut off when I was 9, about 14 inches of it) had been stolen. we found odd cookware, needles, razor blades, used condoms, pipes cans, bottles and all sorts of other paraphenalia ALL over the house. they stole my husband's ID, wrote checks all over the state. the cops couldn't be bothered to even come out, just gave me a case number over the phone. just recently in this state we have had a hearing impaired Native American woodcarver gunned down while walking AWAY from a cop, a Newfoundland Dog SLAUGHTERED by four 'roided up officers whilst cowering in a back yard, and a 13 year old girl shot by a deputy while attempting to stop her kidnapper/lover in a Wal-Mart parking lot. and out of this noble profession, I have more contact with them over an outstanding dog at large ticket than any of the crap that happened in my house.

frustrated and distrustful? you betcha!

I have the greatest respect for law enforcement. Yes, there are bad apples (one of the police chiefs after my uncle died turned out to be a con artist - didn't even have law enforcement certification. However, the idiot city manager that didn't check his credentials certainly wasn't blameless there). But most of the time I believe they are decent people trying to do an impossible job.
no, I get it, I do. there are some great people, but then there are some that are just collecting the pay check and strutting
