The books are there to be freely lent out for reading. I check out a book and freely read it. If the purpose of DRM on a library book is to prevent the book being copied and kept or distributed illegally, and I police myself, then I consider myself as being in compliance with the spirit of the law, if not technically so. No harm, no foul.
The library is saying we have eBooks, we have a list of compatible devices that Overdrive links to. You did not look at that list before you bought the wrong reader. So it's not the library's fault. It is your fault.
