The technology has not come yet with a good LCD or monitor replacement. That's why big companies, like the one I work for, want you to take short breaks every hour or so and give you screen filters or expensive flat screen monitors, to reduce the glare and eye strain.
I'm in IT; to me, spending 6hr+ on a monitor daily basis is not fun, but I gotta work and pay my bills. I enjoy what I do for living but I would replace a monitor with something else in a blink of an eye, if that replacement exists, unfortunately, there is nothing like that yet.
We use monitors at work because there is no other choice. For e-reading though, eink is the new alternative.
