BTW, Universities grew out of large medieval libs, which used to be the repository of all knowledge. The internet is such place now, but it's got not just knowledge but also much noise, so filters are necessary for people to separate useful knowledge from all the junk. That's the only thing which may still deem Universities worthwhile.
of course, before going to University or indeed search for knowledge by yourself in the vastness of cyberspace, you need to learn to read and how to interpret what you read. That's the goal of basic schools and teachers so I don't think they should go.
