When I first brought these two kitties home (17 years ago!), they hid and I barely saw them for two days. The first night when I finally found them, they were uncomfortably piled together on the top of a not-very-large barstool. The only way I was able to get them used to touch was to stroke them lightly as they ate. But now...I can't sit down for even a second without a lap full of cats!
