If I could rent a book for a fraction of the price of a new book, I might consider it... paying the same as a paperbook and not getting it keep it makes me sad.
Also, the renting model works best for items that are priced so high that it takes a significant percentage of income to purchase it. If I can easily buy something outright, I don't want to rent it, I want to own it. Mine mine mine mine
