Calibre does support Kindle3 (k3) BUT..... Library Epub books have drm coding/encryption and Calibre needs some help from tools called plug-ins. You also need to actually download those epubs from the library into a epub reader program and then Calibre can work on them. To find out more, Google Apprentice Alf and within the blog search for "tools"
While it may sound complex, actually, once you've set it up and done it once, it becomes pretty transparent. I've done the same, taking advantage of freebies from Barnes and Noble epub books (although you do need to setup and account).
