It is a guess, this is true, but one can make educated guesses: I did a curve fit analysis of the last seven years of ebook sales data to the standard "S-curve" that models how fast people adopt new products, and the data fit the curve with a correlation coefficient of 0.9677 (an incredibly good fit; 1.0 is perfect).
