I'm sensitive to bright lights also...TV, computer...all set to minimum brightness...where I can still see! Never thought of trying a different color text on dark background. Didn't know I could further lower the brightness within the reader.

Of course, since I'm rooted, I don't really use the native reader...but maybe Aldiko, Moon or Coolreader has that feature.
