Almond essence isn't the same as almond extract so you're good there. Extract has alcohol, essence, apparently doesn't. But we don't have any sort of essences at all here, only extracts.

That's what got me thinking about the flavored syrups. As KK said, they are really REALLY sweet! It got me thinking about the corner soda fountain in the neighborhood where I grew up. They had a row of about 8 different syrups to be added to carbonated water. I used to help out there when I was a younger teen, and can vividly remember some of the awful mixtures I made for myself...

edit: ok, it is "First Street pure Almond Extract" and the ingredients are; water, alcohol, and oil of bitter almond. NOTE: no sugar. when I put my finger in and tasted it, it was like an explosion of marzipan in my mouth. I think the alcohol content is extremely low, and indeed, there is nothing on the label which I believe would be required if it had enough to do anything. it certainly does not smell like any alcohol
