I convert all epubs into lrf as the lrf font sizes are closer to one another as the epub font sizes and I thus work around the big size jump from XS-S-M font sizes. The lrf format loads as fast as everything else, but take a little more file space than the epub. Still with 390 books on my PRS-350 there is 1.2 GB left.
