I don't know whether I love them, but I do think they are being smart.

I couldn't imagine them buying eReader to shut it down and kill the reader. Why buy it at all in that case? They could just let it die a natural death, which given Motricity's benign neglect would have happened sooner rather than later.

It's good that they plan to port the reader to other platforms, and I'd expect Symbian and Blackberry to be what they had in mind.

Now, if they're really clever, they'll do what Amazon did when it bought MobiPocket: make the reader and the ebook creator freeware. Fictionwise makes it's living selling content. It's in their interest to have as much content as possible available, and to make it as easy as possible for folks to read it.
