I agree.

On the latter I can see the reason. Safer for kids going to school (as opposed to walking in the street). A clear area for emergency services - ambulances, fire, and police. Pedestrian safety - slips and falls from icy pavement.

But there can be no denying it, every winter some old farts die shoveling their sidewalks. Some don't have the money to pay others to do it, and some have done it all their lives "I ain't a cripple, I'll do it myself"!

I'm just being facetious about the snow shoveling deaths. The thought occurred to me as I was doing the third snow removal of the day (and one the night before).

No matter what activity we, or the government, engage in some deaths will occur.

Staying with the government for instance, here in the US some states restrict the sale of liquor to state run liquor stores. (On a purely personal level that offends me, but I'll keep that out of the discussion unless someone wants to start another thread.)

The next step in the chain is that someone will buy some booze from the state liquor store, drink too much, drive, and possibly kill others.

Is the government responsible for the deaths? Emphatically NO. But is the government involved in the chain of events? Yes.

NOTICE

I enjoy a sense of the absurd. Although some can see that and laugh with me, others have, unfortunately, misunderstood my intentions.

I did try to add a disclaimer on the first page of the thread, but that too was missed.

To those that I've upset, I'm sorry. Not for upsetting anyone in particular, because some will be upset if there're told that it's a nice day. I'm sorry that there is no way to avoid such misunderstandings other than to be totally bland and uninteresting.
