It's not the format. It's the DRM. As far as I know, amazon DRM is proprietary.
My library is poor enough. I don't think it's reasonable to expect it to buy another collection of books just to satisfy one single ereader, even a popular one. Like it or not, the adobe digital ePub is the standard we have for library. I don't want tax money to subsidize amazon.
