Collins, Wilkie: Jezebel’s Daughter, v.1, 13 Jan 2008.

A sensational novel of 1880. The Borgia poisons re-emerge in 19th century Frankfurt as the interests of two strong-minded women collide.

The novel is also interesting for its advocacy of female employment, and the humane treatment of the mentally ill (featuring an early version of a start-chart for good behaviour). The treatment of the dead in the German mortuary is apparently accurate. The same treatments are noted in Tebb’s ‘Premature Burial’ (--already uploaded).
