Welcome to the forum minniejoe.
The first thing you need to do is update the firmware on the literati. You have to have Wifi access to do this. Got to the settings (push the menu button and select "settings"), select wireless and check the "enable" box. Once you have the Wifi connected, it should prompt you with an update. Just click "ok" whenever it asks to proceed.
After the literati updates (There should be 2 updates. Enable Wifi again after the first update.), post again if you have any more problems.
