Using low brightest and grey/sepia backgrounds is hard on the eye. What I resort to reading on is using night mode (Black background and white fonts) this helps reduce the amount of light at night but keeps the fonts crisp.

Also don't hold the nook so close. This part is completely personal, but I found that when I had the nook up close the pixilation of the fonts annoyed me and strained my eyes. Once I started placing the nook farther from my eyes the strain went away and so did the visible pixiels.

I did not experience this kind of strain with my LCD phone or my Kindle 2.

How do I invert the screen? The only option I can find is brightness :/
