I might be completely off topic but we used to have an un-lighted cover for our Kindle3 and it never caused any problems. However, after we tried the lighted cover on a relative's Kindle, we were "converted". I got my husband an Amazon leather cover with a built-in light for Christmas, and he absolutely loves it! It's really not much bulkier or heavier than the un-lighted one. It allows us to read the Kindle even in the middle of the night without bothering anybody with the night light. We've found it worth the extra buck. Just sharing our experience on both types of covers
