If you do decide to read Avempartha, may I suggest that you read the series from the beginning (that is, if you haven't already read the first book in the series); Avempartha can stand alone as a story, as can many if not all the books in the series, but I do think that you will get a lot more out of the series if you read it in order. I really, really liked Avempartha; I enjoyed it more than the first book in the series (I feel like the series in general got better as it went along).

Also, I think I'll be checking out "The Lies of Locke Lamora", if I get a chance.
