I wouldn't be surprised if the used mixture is different.
If nothing else, the used sugar will be different, I guess. Saccharose vs. Corn syrup.

There's worse, IMO. How was cheese invented? Not the lactic acid kind. The one that uses enzymes from a calfs stomach. There's no way this is not disgusting.
